who do you go to bed with?

here are my bed buddies. di ko sila pinapansin madalas pero one time, nakita ko, yung teddy bear nag hug kay princess fiona! di ba ang cute? most of these were gifts from different people pero ayan, naging magkabarkada sila...yung bida ngayon, si ugly dog. kase i kept it for a long time not knowing who to give it to. tas kawawa naman sha sa plastic so i opened it and then i introduced it to the gang. REPOST: IF YOU CAN LEND A GUITAR, YOU CAN CHANGE A LIFE

This is from http://danglingtealeaves.multiply.com/
I don't know Thea Tolentino or her sister but I hope you guys can help...
Thanks!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My sister teaches guitar lessons to a group of kids in one of the poorest places in Quezon City. However, to teach them well, the kids need their own guitars. A pinpointed sponsor still hasn't replied and their recital is fast approaching. Please take some time to read her story, and if you can, or know someone who can, maybe lend your extra guitar so a child can learn to create their own music.

++++++++++

Dear Readers,

I have reached the point of desperation. I am humbly appealing to any kind soul out there to please hear me out.

I am currently teaching a guitar class at the U.P College of music as part of my thesis. My students are members of the Gawad Kalinga Project Laura in Commonwealth, an underprivileged community. I have 11 students in one class, their ages range from 6 to 57 years old. Quite the challenge I know. But the bigger challenge is, not a single one of them owns a guitar.

We hold our classes 2 hours a day, once a week. The first part would be for music theory, the second part would be it’s application on the instrument, which we do by taking turns and passing around my guitar. We’ve been doing this for 7 weeks now since we started last July 3.

We sent out a letter as early as June 19, 2008 to an identified sponsor, requesting their company to lend us guitars. We promised to take care of them and return them after our classes were done. It took weeks before they actually responded. They mentioned they will “release funds” and they will send us 8 guitars, (tsss.. 11 nga yung studyante ko eh, grr..) but they didn’t  give us an exact date. Maghintay lang daw kami, my adviser said.

So that’s what we’ve been doing, waiting. The first few weeks, I thought it would be okay to do without the guitar because I’d be introducing the elements of music. But now that we’ve reached our 7th week, with still no sign of the guitars, I’m having mixed emotions of frustration, anger, fear and a whole lot of stresss!  Their scheduled performance is on Sept.30, 2008 and we haven’t practiced a single thing.

My students are good students. They are very receptive to the musical concepts I’ve been teaching them. But shempre lahat naman ng klase ng learning hindi complete unless you are able to apply it.

Last Thursday I felt as if someone ran a knife across my chest. when one of my students said she’s been practicing the strumming and chord positions at home. I asked if she knows someone with a guitar, and she said “nag-drawing lang po kame sa papel mam.” (argh! I felt so bad) But I had to be optimistic for them so I said, “That’s good! Natutuwa ako at nakakahanap kayo ng iba’t-ibang paraan para matuto, hayaan niyo dadating na yung gitara niyo, antay lang tayo.” I say that every meeting, and I don’t think I can keep showing up empty-handed.

So this is where I am humbly asking your help. I need to borrow 8 nylon-stringed guitars from anyone willing to help--anyone with a big heart and ready to receive lots of good karma from the universe. Out of the 11 students 3 of them are already covered so I only need 8 more. Please, it's for a very good cause. Don’t worry, I assure you, they are good people and they will take care of your guitars. I would make sure that each one of your guitars will be returned to you unharmed by Sept. 30, or even earlier, as soon as my students get their guitars from our sponsor.

The main objective of my thesis is to help their community by uplifting their self-esteem and instill confidence in them through music and performance. Because learning and performing music provides opportunities for students to let down their inhibitions and be able to express themselves freely.

By helping them realize their musical potential and perform together as a group, they would develop a sense of unity, foster cooperative spirit and strengthen their relationship as a community.

With your help, they could very much achieve this  and so much more. Please.

For those willing to lend a helping guitar, pls contact me at: 09179322542

Thank you very much and I look forward to receiving some good news from you!

Sincerely, Thea Tolentino

Jul. 23rd, 2008

salamat, brutus team! party tayo!

ang wish ko lang talaga noon sa cinemalaya, may special award for "best effort" kase dito mananalo yung brutus  pero yung naging prayer ko na lang, sana maipalabas. nobody really knows the amount of hardships we went through--especially the stress and heartache of tara--from pre-prod up to the festival week. kung minsan gusto na nya mag give up. buti na lang di nya tinuloy. sobrang thank you kay nayna na lagi nandyan sa tabi ni tara. sha yung "external drive" kase bumagal na yung "hard disk" ni tara hehehehe...at shempre si sarah grabeng pabalki-balik sa batangan (buhid mangyan community sa malayong bundok) para mag asikaso ng permits at kung anu-anong papeles mula april hanggang july (nak, buti na maintain mo yung healthy body mo ).

sa hirap ng project na to, kung atheist ka, you'll really end up believing there is a God. di sha nawawalan ng maisip na challenges! "survivor mindoro" ba to? ang dami naming natutunan. ang daming nadaanan--literally and figuratively. hay, brutus is a journey movie but ours is not yet over. tapos na yung festival...but that's just part of the journey...

i really don't know how to thank all the people who've made it possible for this film to be shown. yung binasa ni dyim na thank you na mahaba (sorry kung may nakalimutan) nung gala screening, di pa enough yun kase merong di nakapunta.

kaya sana lahat kayo na naging part ng brutus--mula sa ocular (gianne, ron, ate ni ron--basta nung january na nag boracay kayo when we were at sarah's), sa pre-prod (cherry, macoy, clint at lahat na nag back out), production (all our friends who visited, texted, called) and post (namets team and all our friends who dropped by)...bonfire's (tara, marya, jay and i) inviting you all to have a little get-together party. punta kayo sa july 30 sa sarah's sa UP after our screening. we didn't have the chance to have a cast party, kaya ito na yun. yehey! pahubog ta!

sarah, dyim, paulganda, jan, sir ronnie, yul, kuya ian, kuya buboy, paolo, kuya fritz, ate mona, ariel, wilson, ianne, jojo, kuya cinco at lahat na part ng team...dapat nandun kayong lahat ha!

survey para sa mga sawi

sa mga broken-hearted at nang break ng heart, i have a serious question for you guys. konte lang kayo tinatanong ko ng ganito. kahit sobra akong busy, lagi ko pa rin iniisip na dadating yung ex ko at may balak shang makipagkita. he said he'll do what it takes to prove that he's sorry and that he regrets what he did. kung kayo, ano ang pagagawa nyo para ma prove nga sa inyo na sincere sha?

p.s. some of you may want to kick my ass. dedma na. basta i want to see him din. i was really happy with him, eto kami...

past life?

my friend tricia talked about her amazing experience in tawi-tawi, documenting a dance ritual. i mentioned that i had a dream a long time ago that i was in a floating community, where the houses were on stilts and we had to swim to get from one house to another. i found out later on that there's indeed a place like that in the philippines. si tricia ang nagsabi ng name ng place kase nakalimutan ko na. she said it's called SITANGKAI, perhaps i should go there daw to see it for myself. feeling ko, baka past life ko yun. siguro nalunod ako kaya ako hydrophobic pero gusto pa rin sa tubig.

grabe yung place na to, kakaiba no? punta kaya tayo.

nanaginip na rin ba kayo ng ganito? na meron palang totoong place at feeling mo totoo yung dream nyo? totoo kaya ang past life?

my ba-on the other day :-)

now that i'm not so busy, i have time to make my own ba-on (includes lunch and snacks) and use my super cute bento things! i use the mickey and minnie cutter for bread instead of cookies since i don't have an oven yet. aren't they adorable? my friends don't want to eat them though because they're too cute to be eaten! with the disney duo are cream cheese, liverwurst, cheddar cheese cubes (in my melody paper) and lettuce. for dessert, mini dark kisses and hello kitty vitamin c jellies. yummy!
